Helical gears are an improvment over spur gears. The basic design is the same, but the teeth on a helical gear are cut at an angle to the face of the gear.
When two teeth on a helical gear system engage, the contact starts at one end of the tooth and gradually spreads across the full tooth. This allows for a much quieter operation than with a spur gear.
Helical gears can be used both parallel or crossed.
Parallel is when the shafts are parallel to each other, crossed is when the shafts are at right angles.
Helical gears are also available as double helical or herringbone gear. This design removes the need for a thrust bearing.
We can manufacture helical gears to any pitch, with Gear Hobbing up to 1000mm O/D (40inches)
